should it be free ? there's the audacity editor but I do not recommend this software.what about ocean audio?

I had bad experience with this audacity. ocean audio looks good for me and it's from brazil ;-)

ocean audio is nice buts needs about 150 MB disk space and it's not possible to do nondestructive editing with it.
it supports (restricted) VST plugins but you can use them live like in cubase or wavelab.

I worked with it a couple of days. the vst support is not really useful.
